This isn’t the first time I’ve brought up the limitations of what we know as “preventative medicine”.
From the overuse use of invasive diagnostic and imaging tools, to the horrific nutrition advice doled out by doctors, government agencies, and medical associations—the truth is our country is light years BEHIND when it comes to preventing disease.
If you think I’m being dramatic or downright inaccurate, consider this.
Despite all we are told about promising advances in chronic disease prevention and treatment, the plain fact is chronic disease is more rampant than EVER.
Autoimmune disorders alone, like Type 2 diabetes, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, and Rheumatoid Arthritis, affect over 50 million people (likely more) and cost the country over 100 billion dollars per year1.
And that’s just autoimmune diseases, to say nothing of heart disease and cancer—neck-and-neck as our nation’s number one killers. Between 1900 and 2010, deaths from cancer have nearly tripled and deaths from heart disease nearly doubled2.
Given the facts, it is blatantly obvious there is an awful lot of disease brewing under the watchful eye of our “preventative medicine” systems.
Despite this bleak outlook, you have an amazing alternative to conventional preventative medicine…and it’s changing the face of both the medical and integrative health worlds.
It’s called predictive medicine.
What’s predictive medicine? A field in which trained specialists use advanced assessment tools, genetic testing, and other techniques to isolate body imbalances before they turn into symptoms or a full-blown disease.
At Merritt Wellness Center, we use a variety of predictive medicine tools such as nutrigenomics testing, personalized genetic testing, and functional medicine lab work to help our clients identify potential health issues before they become chronic.
And recently we’ve added a powerful new tool to our arsenal known as Full Body Thermography.
You may have heard of breast thermography before—a non-invasive, FDA-approved screening that assesses breast tissue using temperature changes, with no damaging radiation or EMFs.
Likewise, Full Body Thermography uses temperature change to evaluate how your whole body is regulating itself in real-time.
Here’s how it works and why it’s such an effective assessment tool…
How Full Body Thermography Works
The assessment begins in a mild-temperature room (between 68 and 70 degrees) with the client fully clothed. An infrared sensor is used to take the temperature of over 100 points on your body and that information is fed to a computer program.
Next (you guessed it), you disrobe down to your underwear and the technician re-takes those temperatures.
Once the data is collected and you get redressed, a computer program analyzes the information and compares the different readings.
For example, if a particular area stays too warm that could indicate an imbalance of inflammation.
Conversely, if an area is unable to come up to temperature, that could indicate a deficiency or lack of energy in that organ or system.
From there, we are able to gain insights into which organs and/or systems would benefit from some attention and support before you have any unwanted symptoms pop up.
Isn’t that what we’ve always wanted in medicine? A way to isolate potential problems before they become serious problems?
Health perks aside, imagine how much money we could all save on doctor visits, drugs, surgeries, and other treatments if everyone took advantage of predictive medicine tools like this.
In other words: Full Body Thermography is a game-changer.
Some of our clients have described it as a “time machine” of health. And it is invaluable for those of us wishing to preserve our health and prevent disease for decades to come.
Conditions Full Body Thermography Can Predict and Assess:
A Full Body Thermography screening can assess the following:
- Brain issues
- Endocrine dysfunction
- Digestive ailments
- Reproductive health
- Dental problems
- Sinus issues
- Immune dysfunctions
- Lymphatic and breast health
- And much more
Remember, we’re scanning over 100 points on the body which means we can pick up a whole lot when it comes to imbalances, ailments, and deficiencies.
But it’s what you do with this information that counts…
As with any type of assessment tool, from lab work to Traditional Chinese tongue diagnosis, the scan is only providing us with specific information.
It’s what we do with that information that counts.
As predictive medicine experts specializing in functional medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and nutrition, our goal is to take that information, interpret the results, share it with you, and put a holistic action plan in place to interrupt any diseases that may be brewing.
What might this look like?
Let’s use an example of a client who suffers from anxiety, digestive stress, and frequent colds.
This client’s Full Body Thermography screening would likely show significant temperature gains in the digestive tract along with deficient temperature gains in the brain (yes, the two are intimately connected).
For her, we would recommend a specific elimination diet with food-based supplements to help re-set her gut flora, stress management strategies, and perhaps a series of acupuncture treatments to help boost immunity, calm inflammation, and re-balance her core digestive organs.
This type of individual program will reset that gut-brain connection, thereby eliminating digestive complaints, anxiety, and boosting immunity naturally.
After a few weeks of this, we would re-scan to evaluate progress and make sure we’re on the right track.
This follow-up scan is powerful for both the client and doctor.
On the one hand, the client gets to see actual progress in the form of real live data, and the doctor gains further insight into exactly how the client is progressing.
That’s the beauty of predictive medicine; it eliminates the need for guessing games when it comes to individual disease prevention and optimizing health.
